What Are Lock Out Tags?
Lock Out Tags refer to the practice of placing locks and tags on enrgy-isolating devices of machinery or equipment to prevent the release of hazardous energy while maintenance or servicing is being performed. The process consists of two key elements:
Lockout: Ths involves physically locking the energy-isolating device (such as a switch or valve) to prevent the equipment from being accidentally started or energized.
Tagout: In addition to the lock, a tagis attached to the energy-isolating device. The tag typically provides crucial information such as the name of the person performing maintenance, the date, and specific instructions that the device should not be operated until maintenance is complete. ie Lock Out Tags (LOTO) are an essential safety procedure used across various industries to ensure the safety of workers when servicing or maintaining machinery and equipment.
